Nothing in the Bible means what you think it means at face value, and I find that freaking AMAZING! Yes, there is a moral and spiritual message on the surface, but unlocking those intricate spiritual mysteries are for those who ask, seek and knock. The door / portal of the celestial and spiritual realms will be opened.
