Yours truly doesn’t find it strange or alarming, but sensible and relieving, that people are leaving exclusive religion in droves. There’s only so much being beat down, burnt out, and buried by self-depreciative conditioning that any one of us can put up with.
Folks tire of being reminded that we are good-for-nothing, totally depraved, wretched sinners who’re unfit for the presence of divinity. There’s only so much vitriol that holy-rolling clerics can spew at their parishioners before the latter resentfully tunes out the former.
No one finds peace with the wrathful god touted by theological gatekeepers nor being under surveillance via ordained voyeurs. Consider how dehumanizing it is to be subjected to religious public discipline, as you’re shamed and shunned before imperfect peers.
Practitioners of inclusive spirituality tend to thrive, because we no longer are, or never were, restricted to a misanthropic curriculum. Disregarding our potential as highly advanced life forms in order to appease an undetectable specter is a truly nonsensical betrayal.
