Jesus experienced oneness with the universe, due to experiencing enlightenment. It’s an experience he was teaching others to achieve as well. Christians often misperceive his attainment of oneness with the universe as being God himself and “the only son of god” as a human despite him literally teaching that we are all similarly “children of our father” (he used the word father to symbolize the greater universe)
He was just describing oneness/enlightenment, though Christians mistake his declaration of achieving oneness with the greater universe (our figurative father) as being singular god. He just experienced non duality which is no different than what Buddhism and Hinduism teaches.
Jesus’ use of language inevitably confused people in the years after his death, because they confuse his claim of oneness with the universe, with actually being God. This also operates under the assumption of religious duality being actual truth, an assumption easily disproven by anyone who has achieved a spiritual awakening and oneness with all as well. This can be achieved by anyone.
Imagine you had achieved enlightenment and oneness with all as a result and people decided to worship you as God? That was the aftermath of Jesus teachings post death. He achieved enlightenment, and unintentionally sparked a religion where people started to worship him in what is the biggest form of unintentional comedic irony of all time.
People get caught up in the wording Jesus used because they’re being literalists, but do not read his teachings if you’re a literalist. Then much of its underlying messages inevitably go over your head. The biblical narratives and Jesus’ decision to use symbolim has thrown off Christians for 2000 years. This has also led to people worshipping him instead of following his directions to achieve the same oneness he had achieved.
At no point in his teachings does he ever instruct that he needs to be worshipped, he emphasizes leading an empathetic, benevolent life while leveraging the Holy Spirit over our egos whenever possible.
Nor does he ever state believing he died on the cross for us as a prerequisite for enlightenment (described as heaven within). These are all stipulations made by people after his death who decided to worship him as God for simply teaching people what other faiths like Hinduism and Buddhism were teaching people to accomplish. Enlightenment.
In summation, he taught that we are all the literally one and children of “our father”, which does not make him the exclusive son of god. Unfortunately, the use of less metaphorical and symbolic language would have led to less confusion over the course of 2000 years. Christians need to let go of these incorrect interpretations of his teachings, in some cases I’ve been called the anti christ for merely suggesting this.
