Why does the dark night of the soul exist?
The dark night of the soul appears when what used to hold you ceases to.
Ideas, beliefs, identities, desires, even the image you had of yourself..
everything starts to lose sense, like it doesn’t fit anymore.
And no, it’s not a punishment.
It’s a natural phase of transition.
Consciousness cannot expand by carrying old structures,
that’s why life…
or the psyche… causes a vacuum.
And that emptiness hurts, because the ego runs without references.
Suddenly you dont know who you are,
you don’t feel connection,
you can’t find any direction.
But though it does not seem so,
you’re not missing out:
the fake is dismantling.
Why does ego even exist?
The ego is not the enemy.
The ego is a tool of survival.
It serves to create identity,
to protect you from pain,
to give you limits,
to enable you function in the world.
The problem is not to have ego,
the problem is believing that’s all you are.
When you seek enlightenment, truth or a broader conscience,
The ego feels threatened,
because their function is to control and maintain.
Therefore you defend yourself through fear,
the guilt,
the pride,
the attachment,
and the suffering.
Does suffering have to do with the disintegration of ego?
Yeah… but here’s something very important to understand.
Suffering does not destroy the ego.
Resistance to suffering is what makes you stronger.
When you resist, the ego struggles to survive.
When you allow yourself to feel without running away, the ego begins to loose.
It doesn’t break at once.
Disarms by layers.
And every layer that falls is lived as a loss,
like a void,
as sadness,
as confusion,
like that deep feeling of “I’m not who I was anymore.”
That is the dark night.
Is it necessary for illumination?
There is no enlightenment without a partial disintegration of the ego.
But it is not about annihilation,
but of rearranging.
The ego ceases to be the master
and it becomes an instrument.
Enlightenment is not constant happiness.
It’s clarity.
It is realizing that you are not your thoughts,
you are not your story,
you are not your pain,
you are not your ego.
And when this is truly understood,
suffering stops to define you,
though it continues to exist within the human experience.
The key reveal…
Listen to her with your heart…
The dark night does not happen because you are lost.
It happens because you can’t cheat yourself anymore.
And that… even though it hurts,
is a deep sign of maturity of conscience.
