1. The Body as a Tool of Discernment
Your physical body is a “canvas” for the prophetic. In the realm of the Spirit, the Holy Ghost often communicates by allowing you to feel what others are feeling—whether it is physical pain, worry, or betrayal—within your own flesh. You must interpret these physical sensations as spiritual data rather than dismissing them as natural occurrences.
2. The Principle of Prophetic Triggers
Discernment often begins with a “trigger”—a sudden emotion, a scent, or a physical feeling that acts as a signal to investigate. These triggers are invitations from the Holy Spirit to inquire deeper. If you ignore the initial trigger, you may miss the entire revelation God intended to provide.
3. The Responsibility of Perception
Heaven operates on the principle that “God speaks, but man perceives it not.” It is not God’s responsibility to make you listen; it is your duty as a spiritual person to strive for Mastery. If God speaks in a specific dimension (like a dream) and you fail to perceive it, He may not repeat Himself in another format.
4. The Priority of the Root over the Surface
A prophetic person must never be directed by the person they are ministering to. People often present surface-level problems (like “lost donkeys”), but the Holy Spirit wants to address the root issue. You must yield to discernment over the outward story to release words that carry actual “Life.”
5. The Law of Spiritual Inquiry
God often waits for us to ask. Following the example of David, the prophetic believer must “inquire of the Lord” before making moves. Even if you are a prophet, God may allow you to plan a losing strategy if you fail to inquire about the hidden sins or obstacles in your camp.
6. Discernment as a Shield of Protection
A sensitive, loving heart is a blessing, but it can be a liability without discernment. Discernment protects the prophetic person from being manipulated by “religious” spirits or people who come with “torn clothes and moldy bread” (like the Gibeonites) but harbor deceptive intentions.
7. Mastery of the Classroom of Prayer
Prayer is not just for making requests; it is a classroom where the Holy Spirit teaches you His vocabulary. You must learn the “technicals” of how the Spirit moves in your specific life. Once the Holy Spirit teaches a lesson, He eventually becomes the “Examiner” and expects you to walk in that knowledge without being prompted.
8. The Witness of Spiritual Peace
Before convincing yourself to trust a situation through logic or “optimism,” you must check your internal peace. If your peace is disturbed, it is a spiritual warning. Never work against your own discernment to try to be “nice” or “hopeful”—trust the Holy Spirit’s “no” over your soul’s “yes.”
9. Discernment through Observation
Prophetic people must be highly observant of the natural world. By paying attention to details—changes in a person’s routine, behavior, or tone—you can perceive spiritual shifts. Observation is a legitimate dimension of discernment that allows you to see what others overlook.
10. Independence from Outward Confessions
As you grow in discernment, you must move past the need for human validation or “confessions.” If the Holy Spirit reveals that a person is being dishonest, you don’t need them to admit it to act on that truth. Trust the revelation provided by the Spirit even when the physical evidence has not yet been caught.
