🔥 WHAT AM I REALLY SENSING? 🔥

THE HOLY SPIRIT, MY OWN SOUL, OR THE SPIRITUAL ATMOSPHERE?

One of the most important abilities a prophetic person must develop is not simply spiritual sensitivity.

It is source discernment.

Sensitivity receives.

Discernment identifies.

Wisdom determines the proper response.

You may walk into a room and suddenly feel heaviness.

You may begin praying and unexpectedly see someone’s face.

You may experience a strong warning concerning a situation.

You may feel grief that does not seem connected to anything happening in your own life.

But before saying, “God showed me,” you must ask:

🕊️ What am I actually sensing?

🧠 Where did it originate?

🧩 What does it mean?

🙏 What am I supposed to do with it?

“Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good.”

1 Thessalonians 5:21 WEB

Testing revelation is not unbelief.

Testing is part of biblical prophetic maturity.

🔥 FEELING SOMETHING DOES NOT MEAN YOU UNDERSTAND IT

A prophetic person may accurately sense that something is happening but incorrectly interpret what it means.

You may sense grief, but that does not mean you know what caused it.

You may sense resistance, but that does not mean someone is attacking you.

You may feel urgency, but that does not mean you must speak immediately.

You may receive someone’s name during prayer, but that does not mean they are in danger.

Perhaps the Holy Spirit simply wants you to pray for them.

This is where many prophetic mistakes occur.

The original impression may have been genuine, but the person builds a complete explanation around a small piece of revelation.

God reveals one piece.

Human imagination fills in the missing pieces.

Then the entire conclusion is announced as though God spoke every detail.

Revelation without proper interpretation creates assumptions.

Assumptions spoken in God’s name can cause spiritual harm.

👁️ BEGIN WITH THE RAW REVELATION

Ask yourself:

“What did I actually receive before I began interpreting it?”

Perhaps the raw revelation was:

💔 “I suddenly felt grief.”

👁️ “I saw a picture of a closed door.”

👂 “I heard the word ‘wait’ within my spirit.”

🙏 “This person’s name repeatedly came to mind.”

🛑 “I felt an inward restraint about this decision.”

That is what you received.

Do not immediately add:

“They are grieving because their marriage is failing.”

“The closed door represents a demonic attack.”

“God said they must not take that job.”

“This person is secretly working against me.”

Those conclusions may not have come from the Holy Spirit at all.

Maturity learns to protect the purity of revelation by refusing to add information God did not provide.

🕊️ WHEN IT IS THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit’s communication will always agree with Scripture and reflect the character of Jesus.

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God.”

Romans 8:14 WEB

The Holy Spirit may communicate with great urgency, but He does not produce uncontrollable panic.

He may expose sin, but He leads toward repentance.

He may reveal danger, but He gives wisdom concerning how to respond.

He may uncover hidden pain, but He awakens compassion rather than contempt.

He may correct someone strongly, but His purpose remains redemptive.

His communication is often:

📖 Consistent with Scripture

✝️ Centered upon Jesus

🕊️ Spiritually clean

🔥 Morally clear

❤️ Governed by love

🙏 Drawing you toward prayer

🌱 Producing godly fruit

🧎 Able to survive testing and correction

However, do not assume that every word from the Holy Spirit will feel peaceful or comfortable.

Jeremiah carried messages that troubled him.

Paul sometimes experienced spiritual urgency.

Jesus was deeply grieved and troubled in spirit.

God’s warnings can be weighty.

Conviction can be uncomfortable.

A burden for intercession can feel intense.

The true question is not simply, “Did this make me feel peaceful?”

The deeper questions are:

“Does this agree with God’s Word?”

“Does it carry His character?”

“What fruit is it producing?”

“Is it leading me toward faithful obedience?”

🪞 WHEN IT IS COMING FROM YOUR OWN SOUL

Your soul includes your thoughts, desires, emotions, memories, expectations, and personal interpretations.

Your soul is not automatically evil.

But it is not automatically prophetic either.

Your own soul may speak through:

😨 Fear of being rejected again

💔 Pain from an unhealed wound

🎯 A strong desire for a particular outcome

😠 Offense toward another person

🧠 Memories of previous experiences

🌪️ Anxiety searching for an explanation

🏆 Ambition wanting recognition

Sometimes we want something so deeply that our desire begins sounding like revelation.

Sometimes we fear something so intensely that our anxiety begins feeling like discernment.

Sometimes a current situation touches an old wound, and our past begins interpreting our present.

You may think:

“I discern that they are rejecting me.”

But perhaps their behavior reminded you of someone who rejected you before.

You may think:

“God is warning me that this relationship will fail.”

But perhaps you are afraid to trust again.

You may think:

“God showed me that I am supposed to have this position.”

But perhaps your desire for recognition is speaking loudly.

This does not mean you are dishonest.

It means prophetic people must allow the Holy Spirit to heal their hearts as He develops their gifts.

An unhealed wound can become a lens through which every revelation is interpreted.

Ask yourself:

🪞 “Do I already have strong feelings about this situation?”

🪞 “Am I afraid of a particular outcome?”

🪞 “Is this impression confirming exactly what I already wanted?”

🪞 “Am I interpreting this through rejection, offense, or disappointment?”

🪞 “Would I still believe this was God if the message were the opposite of what I desired?”

The clearer the heart becomes, the more faithfully revelation can flow through it.

🌫️ WHEN YOU ARE SENSING SOMEONE’S BURDEN OR THE ATMOSPHERE

The Holy Spirit may make a prophetic person aware of what is happening beneath the outward appearance of a person, gathering, church, community, or situation.

You may enter a place feeling peaceful and suddenly experience:

😭 Grief

😨 Fear

🔥 Anger

🌪️ Confusion

🙏 A burden to intercede

❤️ Unusual compassion

⚠️ Spiritual resistance

Before entering, you were fine.

The feeling arrived suddenly.

It may lessen when you leave or begin praying.

This could indicate that the Holy Spirit is drawing your attention to something happening around you.

But awareness is not complete understanding.

If you sense heaviness in a room, do not immediately announce:

“There is a spirit of depression over everyone.”

The heaviness could involve grief, exhaustion, conflict, fear, physical suffering, spiritual oppression, or someone silently carrying tremendous pain.

Ask the Holy Spirit:

“Is this mine?”

“Does this belong to someone nearby?”

“Are You revealing this so I will pray?”

“Is there something You want me to say?”

“Do I need to remain silent and simply intercede?”

A prophetic atmosphere is not an invitation to make accusations.

It is an invitation to seek God’s heart.

⚔️ WHEN THERE MAY BE SPIRITUAL OPPOSITION

Scripture teaches that spiritual opposition is real.

“For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Ephesians 6:12 WEB

There is also a biblical gift called discerning of spirits.

1 Corinthians 12:10

Spiritual opposition may attempt to produce:

🌪️ Confusion

😨 Tormenting fear

🗣️ Accusation

⛓️ Condemnation

🔥 Temptation

💔 Division

🕸️ Deception

🛑 Pressure to act outside God’s timing

But not every uncomfortable feeling is a demonic attack.

Not every disagreement is witchcraft.

Not every person who frustrates you carries a Jezebel spirit.

Not every delay is spiritual warfare.

Sometimes people make poor decisions.

Sometimes relationships experience misunderstandings.

Sometimes our bodies are exhausted.

Sometimes we are facing the consequences of our own choices.

True spiritual discernment does not become fascinated with darkness.

It recognizes what may be operating and brings the situation under the authority, truth, wisdom, and victory of Jesus Christ.

Fear studies the darkness.

Discernment looks to Jesus and asks, “How do You want me to respond?”

🩺 WHEN YOUR BODY IS TRYING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING

Prophetic people must not spiritualize every physical or emotional symptom.

Lack of sleep, dehydration, hunger, medication effects, hormone changes, chronic stress, illness, anxiety, and exhaustion can affect how you think and feel.

When Elijah became exhausted and overwhelmed, Yahweh allowed him to sleep and provided food and water before giving him further direction.

1 Kings 19:5–8

Sometimes you need intercession.

Sometimes you need spiritual warfare.

Sometimes you need rest, nutrition, medical attention, counseling, or time to recover.

Receiving practical care is not a lack of faith.

Your body is not your enemy.

It may be communicating that something needs attention.

🔥 SEVEN QUESTIONS FOR TESTING WHAT YOU SENSE

1️⃣ WHAT EXACTLY DID I RECEIVE?

Separate the original impression from everything you assumed afterward.

2️⃣ WHEN DID IT BEGIN?

Did it begin during prayer, after entering a particular place, during a stressful conversation, after losing sleep, or after something triggered an old wound?

3️⃣ WHAT IS IT DRAWING ME TOWARD?

The Holy Spirit leads toward truth, prayer, obedience, love, wisdom, repentance, and Jesus.

Fear leads toward panic, accusation, isolation, control, and confusion.

4️⃣ DOES IT AGREE WITH SCRIPTURE?

The Holy Spirit will never contradict the written Word He inspired.

5️⃣ HAVE I ASKED GOD FOR INTERPRETATION?

Do not assume the first meaning that enters your mind is the correct meaning.

6️⃣ CAN THIS BE TESTED?

“Let two or three of the prophets speak, and let the others discern.”

1 Corinthians 14:29 WEB

True prophetic revelation does not fear biblical examination.

7️⃣ DO I KNOW THE ASSIGNMENT?

Was this given for prayer, private encouragement, personal preparation, leadership counsel, or public proclamation?

Not everything God reveals is meant to be announced.

🙏 PRAYER BEFORE PROCLAMATION

One of the safest habits a prophetic person can develop is praying before speaking.

When you sense something, do not immediately post it.

Do not immediately confront someone.

Do not immediately attach a spiritual label to a person.

Carry it into the presence of God.

Ask for clarity.

Allow your emotions to settle.

Wait for confirmation.

Let Scripture examine your interpretation.

Sometimes the Holy Spirit will increase the burden and tell you to speak.

Sometimes He will correct your interpretation.

Sometimes He will reveal that the feeling came from your own wounds.

Sometimes He will say:

“I did not reveal this for you to expose them. I revealed it so you would intercede for them.”

🔥 PROPHETIC MATURITY IS RESPONSIBLE SENSITIVITY

Prophetic maturity is not feeling everything intensely.

It is learning how to carry what you feel responsibly.

It is being able to say:

🕊️ “I sense something, but I do not yet understand it.”

🙏 “I believe this may be an invitation to pray.”

🧩 “I received a picture, but I am waiting for the interpretation.”

🧎 “I could be wrong, so please test this.”

🛑 “God has not given me permission to share this.”

❤️ “What I sensed made me more compassionate, not more suspicious.”

The goal is not to become the person who always knows what is happening.

The goal is to become someone God can trust with what He reveals.

🙏 PRAYER

Holy Spirit, teach me to recognize the source of what I am sensing.

Help me distinguish Your voice from my own thoughts, desires, fears, wounds, and assumptions. Heal every place within me that could distort revelation.

When You allow me to feel another person’s burden, give me compassion instead of suspicion.

When spiritual opposition is present, give me authority without fear.

When my body or emotions need care, give me humility and wisdom to recognize it.

Teach me to receive without adding, interpret without assuming, and respond without controlling.

Show me what to pray, what to speak, what to write down, and what to keep hidden within the secret place.

Make me spiritually sensitive, biblically grounded, emotionally healthy, humble, discerning, and trustworthy.

In Jesus’ name, amen. 🔥

The mature prophetic person does not declare everything they feel.

They test it.

They pray over it.

They wait for understanding.

Then they obey the Holy Spirit with humility, wisdom, and love.
